Second Circular
Introduction
The 3rd International Conference on Exotic Nuclei
and Atomic Masses, ENAM2001, will be held in Aulanko near
the city of Hämeenlinna, Finland, on 2-7 July 2001.
Please check the ENAM2001 web site (enam2001.jyu.fi) for the
most recent information.
In this Circular we present a partial list of invited
speakers, a call for submission of abstracts, and
information on the conference site and registration.
Scope of the
Conference
The programme will consist of invited review
talks on major developments in the area of exotic nuclei and
atomic masses, and of selected oral and poster contributions
on important experimental and theoretical topics. Fields to

Conference
Programme
A preliminary list of confirmed invited speakers
scheduled by the International Advisory Committee can be
found on the conference web
site. Additionally, the programme will include about 30
invited or oral presentations selected on the basis of the
submitted abstracts by the Organising and Advisory
Committees. Speakers will be notified by May 15th, 2001.
Please check the conference web site for updated information
about the scientific programme, which will begin on July 3rd
in the morning and end on July 7th late in the afternoon.
The welcome reception will take place on July 2nd.
Call
for Abstracts
We would like to request all those wishing to
contribute to the conference to submit an abstract of their
contribution by April 15th, 2001. This request includes the
invited speakers. The abstracts are one-page long and should
be written according to the model which is available from
the ENAM2001 web site. The text
must fit within a frame with the dimensions of 15 cm x 23
cm. The abstracts should be sent as pdf or postscript files
by e-mail to enam2001@phys.jyu.fi.

The Book of Abstracts will be handed out to all
registered participants during conference registration. The
electronically submitted abstracts will be available on the
conference web site after May 15th.
Poster
Session
A poster session will be scheduled. The posters
will be on display during the whole conference. Exact
information about the size and format of the posters will be
given in the third circular.
Proceedings
The conference proceedings will be published by
Springer Publishing company as two volumes. Volume One will
include the invited talks and Volume Two those contributions
selected for oral or poster presentation. Volume one will
additionally come out as a dedicated issue in European
Physical Journal A. Instructions for the preparation of
manuscripts will be given in the third circular. The
deadline for submitting the contributions is July 7th,
2001.
Language
The official conference language is English.
Registration
Fees
The conference registration fee is 400 Euro for
regular participants and 170 Euro for students providing
that registration is made by April 15th. After April 15th,
the rates are 450 Euro for regular participants and 220 Euro
for students. The fee covers among others the conference
proceedings, book of abstract, coffee breaks, welcome
reception, excursion and conference dinner. No refunds are
possible for any part of the package not taken.
Conference Site
and Accommodation
The Aulanko natural park is in southern Finland,
100 km north of Helsinki. The site follows the tradition of
the ENAM conferences and is surrounded by some of Finland's
most beautiful nature, lakes and forests. The conference
venue, Hotel Rantasipi Aulanko, is renowned for its 60 years
of tradition as a magnificent location for conferences and
special occasions.

Meals only, for those with own accommodation arrangements,

Those searching for a moderate option for accommodation
are requested to contact Hotel Punaportti (tel.: +358 3 614

hotelli.punaportti@hakk.htk.fi) where a restricted number of
youth hostel rooms have been blocked for ENAM2001. Room
rates (breakfast included) are approximately 40 Euro (double
room, per person) - 50 Euro (single room). Hotel Punaportti
lies in the city of Hämeenlinna with convenient bus
connections to the conference venue. Please note that you
should make booking directly to the hotel.
Registration
and Accommodation Reservation
Conference registration and reservation of
accommodation in the conference hotel are handled by the
Conference Secretariat at Jyväskylä Congresses.
The preferred method is via internet (click
here). Alternatively, you can contact the
Conference Secretariat using the information given at the
end of this circular. Accommodation in the conference hotel
can only be guaranteed if the reservation is made not later
than April 15th. Please refer to the instructions for
payment given on the registration form and note the terms of
cancellation. For cancellations received before May 31st, a
refund less charges of 80 Euro will be made. No refund can
be made after this date.
Weather
Due to its northern location, Finland enjoys long days in
Summer; in July in Southern Finland, nights only last a few
hours. The average daily maximum temperature is 22 degrees
C. We recommend however to be prepared for cooler and rainy
weather.
Travel
Information
Finland's capital city Helsinki is served by most major
airlines. Free bus transportation from the Helsinki-Vantaa
airport to the conference venue will be provided on Monday,
July 2nd, at around 3 and 6 pm. A direct flight from
Stockholm to Tampere might be a convenient alternative.
Finland can also be reached by ferry boat from Sweden
(Stockholm-Helsinki and Stockholm-Turku) and Germany
(Rostock-Helsinki and Rostock-Hanko). Hämeenlinna can
easily be reached by bus or train from anywhere in Finland.
The timetables can be checked at www.expressbus.com (bus) or
www.vr.fi (train). From the Hämeenlinna bus or train
station, it is most convenient to take a taxi to Hotel
Rantasipi Aulanko. Details about the travel to the
conference location inside Finland will be given in the 3rd
circular.

Finnish Visa
Formalities
An entrance visa for Finland is not required for
citizens of the European Union and some other countries.
Please check with your travel agent or with the nearest
Finnish Consulate whether or not you need a visa to enter
Finland.
Accompanying
Persons
The registration fee for accompanying persons is
125 Euro and includes among others the welcome reception,
the conference dinner, the excursion and a day tour around
Hämeenlinna.
Financial
Assistance
Limited funds are available for participants of
the conference with emphasis on young scientists. Those
requesting financial assistance are kindly asked to apply
for support at the latest on March 31st.

before the conference. It will contain more information on
transportation from the airport, the excursion and the
